What are Clinical Trials? Clinical trials are the study of new treatments and drugs on the effectiveness against diseases like diabetes. They give patients access to new treatments years before they are available to the general public. Without volunteers for clinical trials new medications would not be approved and available to the general public. Are Clinical Trials Safe? In many cases the treatments and drugs administered in Canadian clinical trials have already been approved in the US or Europe. Health Canada will permit clinical trials only if they are deemed safe and will prove something medically worthwhile. Proposed trials also require approval from independent ethics boards at the hospital or research facility where the work is to proceed What’s Involved? All clinical trials are conducted out of Vancouver. Reimbursement for travel, parking & incidental expenses is available for all studies. Blood glucose meters & test-strips (and in some cases regular diabetes medication) are provided to participants at no charge. The amount of time and visits involved varies by program but averages are 1-4 times per month. How can I get involved? Fill out the form below and we will contact you within 48 hours.
